This was me with my health degrading every year considering I had sleep problem for 40 years! Once I started sleeping better, my life changed and was transformed. I WISH I had known how to resolve these issues sooner -- school and work would have been easier and life would have been happier. I had been to 5 therapists over a 30 year period. They kept insisting I needed to "dig deeper" to get to my trauma but I had no trauma. There was something causing me to not be able to calm my mind...there wasn't an emotional or mental issue except ones that were caused by lack of sleep. What I learned was all the things I was trying were not getting to the root cause. My brain was stuck in "fight or flight" and I was unable to turn off the racing thoughts. There was a reason why when I tried to meditate, I was unable to stop my mind from "problem solving" or ruminating about what was bothering me. Caffeine and sugar made my depression and sleep MUCH worse. Vitamin and mineral deficiency was also a factor...for me it was Magnesium and Vitamin D deficiency. I also had adrenal fatigue. I frequently get asked what the best remedy or treatment is for "x, y or z". And while I'd love to give someone a quick answer, it's just not that simple. I could have ten people come to me with the exact same symptoms and there might be ten different solutions.
We are unique and therefore, it's essential to get to the root cause of WHY you are experiencing your health challenges. What might have worked for one person may have zero effect on you. Chronic health issues can be complicated. They might be as a result of chronic stress which can cause the nervous system to get out of whack, creating all sorts of havoc. Or maybe the problem stemmed from an injury, or a poor diet or even too much exposure to EMF devices. It's essential to unravel the threads that have led you to where you are today. I'll share with you one of the tools that I use when working with clients. I do suggest sitting quietly in a room with several pieces of paper. Leave your phone somewhere else so you can allow your mind to get into a relaxed state and stay focused peeling back the layers. When did the problem begin? Try to figure out an approximate day/year. This is can be critical in helping you solve the questions you might have. What was going on at that point in your life? Was there added stress, a trauma of some sort (emotional, physical or mental)? Did you have a miserable job or occupation? Were relationships strained with those that you were (or are) close to? There is no doubt that stress is being implicated in every health problem so understanding HOW stress is affecting your life is so important! There are so many health issues that are tied into a trauma or years of trauma where our body just can no longer "fight" to stay healthy. For me, I've actually been in at least 8 car accidents with the first one starting when I was 11 years old. There's no doubt that my chronic neck pain with severe degenerative disk disease started at the first accident. Did you know that pain can stay in your brain even after there is no obvious tissue damage. Studies have shown that understanding that detail can be an important piece in your recovery. Also, going to a practitioner to help you with your chronic pain should also understand this too. The combination can make the difference in an individual's recovery. Find a practitioner that will help you unravel the CAUSE of your health problem rather than just throwing a bunch of treatments at it and hope that one of them will work! According to the CDC website, 95% of those that have died from covid averaged 4 co-morbidities including diabetes. 80-90% had SEVERE Vit D deficiency. There was also a study showing that poor diet contributes to poor outcomes. Have you heard the CDC mention this and encouraged people to improve their health, even though many of these co-morbidities, Vitamin D levels can be improved through diet. The first 30 years of my life I was chronically ill with colds, bronchial & sinus infections and constant allergies from taking antibiotics and prednisone 2 – 4 times per year. At the age of 20 I developed food allergies to almost every raw fruit and vegetable. At 30 I started Chiropractic care which was the beginning of my journey towards health. While I went for chronic back pain, within 2 months, all of the health conditions I mentioned were gone! I now understand that Chiropractic boosts the immune system but at the time, all I was interested in was getting rid of my pain. This is important to understand how critical healing your body is, having a strong immune system and healthy gut if you want your body to “handle” whatever “bug” comes along. If you have taken medications and vaccines for years, your liver and other areas of your body are most likely toxic. Here’s what helped me to heal my gut. Elimination of dairy, wheat, gluten and sugar, detoxification and taking l-glutamine to heal leaky gut and eating fermented vegetables. Detoxification of my liver using herbs like milk thistle have been invaluable as well as other modalities that helped to detoxify other areas of my body. After a lot of work, all of my food allergies are gone with the exception of one fruit. To make sure you get enough Vitamin D, I recommend Vitamin D3/K2 combination but you could also use Cod Liver oil and sitting out in the sun for 20 minutes per day to get Vitamin D naturally. You can get your Vitamin D levels checked. Increase organic fruits and green, leafy vegetables which will also increase alkalinity, anti-oxidants for detoxification and improve mineral deficiencies. Glutathione is essential for detoxification. NAC helps your body replenish glutathione. You can take it as a supplement or find it in many foods including chicken, turkey, yogurt, cheese, eggs, sunflower seeds and legumes. Zinc is a mineral essential for good respiratory health. You can find it in meat, shellfish, legumes like chickpeas, lentils (sprouting improves bioavailability). Vitamin C is essential and you can either eat a lot of citrus fruits and/or take a supplement. Just yesterday I read a new study stating that turmeric/curcumin is effective against the sars cov2 virus. Turmeric is a root or you can buy it as a pill. The other factor is stress and sleep for strong immune function. When the media puts out fear 24/7 do you think that improves or decreases immune function. Teaching your brain and body to handle stress better will also boost your immune system and improve gut health. Poor sleep will also cause fight or flight so aim towards 6-8 hours per night. The number one thing to take out of today is if you are have poor immune function and gut issues is to seek out the advice of a health care practitioner that will treat the root cause and help you heal. Number two is to spend time outside, find ways to decompress from stress, spend time with loved ones, eat healthy. Lastly, get a good night’s sleep. Don’t watch the news or read emails prior to bedtime. You can do this! I was led to become a Reiki Master because of an incredible experience I had by my Reiki Master a couple years earlier. I was very skeptical of energy healing but my neighbor insisted. I figured what did I have to lose? My father had died a few years earlier and I had been filled with grief with it impacting my life. Studies pointing to Vitamin D’s ability to fight viruses and respiratory illness go back decades.
After the emergence of COVID-19 studies emerged almost immediately pointing to Vitamin D’s ability to fight that virus too. Many of the studies were observational, and don’t carry as much weight. However even the studies that are considered higher standard--randomized controlled trials—have still been labeled “only preliminary.” At a time when a doctor can lose his/her license for portraying Vitamin D in a way not approved by the government, even researchers want to be very careful with any suggestion that a vitamin can “treat, cure or prevent any disease.” But as the studies continue to pile up—from numerous countries—it is difficult to ignore the evidence. For this reason the sale of Vitamin D supplements have skyrocketed. Meanwhile, during the last half of March, three more studies were added to the mix: Study 1: Higher COVID death rate in Black population can be lowered with improved Vitamin D levels Research published in JAMA Open Network on March 19 retrospectively examined the relationship between Vitamin D levels and likelihood of testing positive for COVID-19. The study looked at data from over 3,000 patients at UChicago Medicine who had had their Vitamin D levels tested within 14 days before a COVID-19 test. While levels of 30 ng/ml or more are usually considered “sufficient,” the authors found that Black individuals who had levels of 30 to 40 ng/ml had a 2.64 times higher risk of testing positive for COVID-19 than people with levels of 40 ng/ml or greater. Study 2: A five-fold increase in Vitamin D intake needed to adequately fight respiratory tract infections UK researchers reviewing meta-analytical evidence on respiratory tract infections found that low levels of Vitamin D3 correlated with an increased risk of developing several immune-related disorders, including respiratory infection and COVID-19. The research was published March 25 in Frontiers in Nutrition. The researchers determined that the current UK Vitamin D intake recommendations would need to increase by almost 500% to adequately protect against respiratory tract infections. The report concludes: “AMR poses a threat to future global health, and the current COVID-19 pandemic is highly damaging to health, societies, and economies. Urgent responses are needed. Supporting the immune system of the population in advance of exposure to infections would reduce the number and severity of infections and reduce use of antibiotics. Vitamin D has multiple roles in supporting the immune system.” Study 3: Vitamin D supplementation offers protection for groups vulnerable to respiratory tract infections A study published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology found that daily supplementing with Vitamin D provided protection against acute respiratory infections when compared to placebo groups. The researchers based their results on 43 randomized and placebo-controlled studies that were examining the relationship between Vitamin D and respiratory infections of nearly 49,000 participants. The protection was found with Vitamin D doses between 400–1000 IU for up to 12 months. This amount—which is considered “moderate”—was also found to be a very safe form of preventive treatment. According to the study abstract, Vitamin D prevents respiratory infections by “boosting a range of innate antiviral responses, while simultaneously dampening down potentially harmful inflammatory responses.” The study was conducted at Queen Mary University of London, and results were published on March 30, 2021. Researchers noted the study was a review of respiratory tract infections in general, and results cannot be assumed to apply to COVID-19 specifically: “The relevance of these findings to COVID-19 is not known and requires further investigation.” Source: https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnut.2021.652469/full Now, no matter how much of a health nut you are, your body is plagued with toxins. National Geographic Magazine paid nearly $15,000 to test one of their reporters for the presence of 320 different chemicals as part of an undercover investigation into environmental toxins. They discovered that the reporter’s level of one flame retardant chemical was so high it would have been considered alarming, even if the reporter had worked in a plant that manufactured the chemical. A Mount Sinai School of Medicine study found a total of 167 different chemicals in the blood and urine samples of volunteers, averaging 91 toxins each. They found lead, dioxins, PCBs, phthalate DEHP, as well as compounds that have been banned for more than a quarter century. Not one person in a single study was found to be free of toxins. Most of the cases in the US have occurred amongst those over 60 and serious complications have occurred in those with pre-existing health conditions -- and worse in those with respiratory problems. It's interesting to note that the Department of Defense released information that "Receiving influenza vaccination may increase the risk of other respiratory viruses, a phenomenon known as virus interference" and "Vaccine derived virus interference was significantly associated with coronavirus..." I'm not a fan of the flu vaccine anyway. "They" rarely pick the correct strains and there's serious adverse events (including Guillain-Barré Syndrome) associated with the shot. More importantly, there are plenty of proven things that are safe to recover faster. Even the Cochrane Review (the gold standard regarding research) states the flu vaccine is ineffective.

Think sugar, cereal, bread, potatoes, rice -- all inflammatory. How often are they getting outside to get Vitamin D? Are they taking vitamins? And what about co-factors? In China, where we saw a quick rise in cases and deaths, they have a very severe problem with air pollution. Obviously, like smoking, pollution will affect lung health. OTC headache medications like ibuprofen and acetaminophen can have very serious side effects including liver damage. We live in a world where time feels more precious than ever and stress is everywhere, whether or social media, combatting traffic, navigating relationships both at work and at home, and finding it more difficult than ever for self-care. What will happen if we don't take care of ourselves? How will it affect our lives? The first thing you might notice is difficulty getting into a deep sleep. It's easy to find ourselves awake during the night having difficulty forgetting about our stressors and just sleeping. Or maybe you have difficulty falling asleep. Poor quality sleep can also lead to impatience both with people in the workplace as well as home. We see people that have road rage, blow up at friends on social media, and feeling difficult to give those close to us our "all". And, if we don't feel great it will lead to making poor food choices and finding excuses to not exercise. It becomes a vicious cycle leading to poor health. Low energy => not exercising => not sleeping well. How can you stop this cycle? Consider that if your cup isn't full that it's very difficult to give to others. We can be better versions of ourselves if we are feeling better. How do you start? Make an intention to something great for yourself 4 to 5 times per week. It might be as simple as taking 15 per minutes to take a walk or go to the gym. Maybe putting on music if you like to dance or if it's something that calms you down. Spend time in nature and unplug from the electronic world. Being "connected" to electronics doesn't allow the brain to take a break whereas being connected to nature can have resounding therapeutic benefits. Taking a hike in the woods, sitting on a mountaintop or at the beach, are all therapeutic. Receive body work -- Massage and Chiropractic are fabulous for reducing stress.
